Dining Table Restoration and Refinishing

Designed for domestic clients and hospitality venues with scratched, heat-marked, or water-damaged table tops. We strip degraded polyurethane or shellac, level the timber surface, and seal it with a durable matte or satin hardwax oil. The result is an even, moisture-resistant surface that keeps the wood grain visible.

Questions about this service

Can you fix deep burns or gouges?

Gouges up to 4mm are lifted with steam or filled with tinted epoxy timber melt; deeper burns might require a matching veneer patch.

How long does a refinished dining table take to cure?

The surface is touch-dry in 8 hours and ready for light use in 48 hours, reaching full chemical hardness after 7 days.

Do you do the work in my house?

Smaller tables can be stripped on site with extraction; larger stripping jobs run cleaner when moved to our King Street workshop.

How we get your furniture sorted

  1. 1

    Timber assessment

Check veneer thickness, timber species, and previous coating type on site or in workshop.

  2. 2

    Finish stripping and sanding

Remove the old lacquer down to bare wood using progressive grits from 80 to 240.

  3. 3

    Blemish correction

Steam out wood depressions and spot-treat chemical or tannin stains with oxalic wash.

  4. 4

    Protective sealing

Apply two to three thin coats of microporous oil with intermediate flatting.

What local furniture owners say

★★★★★
Our Victorian dining table had two loose legs and deep water rings. Julian dismantled the loose joints, reglued them, and blended the finish without wiping out the age marks. Rock solid now.
Mark P., Bristol, GB
★★★★★
A mid-century sideboard with stuck drawers and damaged veneer. They picked it up from Clifton, replaced broken internal runners with beech, and delivered it back wrapped in blankets. Opens smooth as silk.
Fiona H., Bristol, GB
★★★★☆
Repaired four wobbly oak kitchen chairs. Work was clean and finished on time. Paid by bank transfer once they set them back up in my kitchen. Very practical service.
Arthur G., Bristol, GB
